If I Had Wings

by

If I had wings, I would fly to your side ~
There in contentment to abide ~
Waiting, breathless for only this~
That first precious long promised kiss~

But I have no wings and I cannot fly~
So I must wait here, till by and by~
On some glad day fate will consent~
To allow us a chance our love to advent~

Love this strong is hard to conceal~
But we must hide these emotions we feel~
Fearing the censor of people unkind~
Who wouldn't condone this joy that we find~

Someday we will be together, I know~
And bask in the light of our love's radiant glow~
Then we will never again be apart~
But spend our eternity,-- one soul, one heart~
